It all started with an idea to photograph three exceptional local business women for our Womens’ Month 2014 project.
It was a no brainer to include perfumista Diana Rankin of Perfume Power South Africa and Xtraordinary Women chapter leader for Somerset west, on our list of Helderberg women running interesting businesses.
Naturally the exotic perfume bottles and other perfume paraphernalia as well as The Scentroom itself, a space which Diana had launched not long before to enhance people's experience of smell, proved to also be a visual treasure house. Martin just could not stop snapping away.
The final product on our blog, raised so much attention that we felt Diana’s story should be told to a wider audience and we approached our friend and freelance writer Maryke Roberts of The Letterbox to find out if it was something she wanted to pitch to the magazines to which she contributes.
The good news is that Vrouekeur, a women’s magazine which is published by Caxton, picked up the story and there it was in the 13 February 2015 issue – Diana’s Perfume Power, Maryke’s story and Martin Van Niekerk’s photographs.
